I have studied BA (Hons) Business Management and Finance at Edinburgh Napier University. The Bachelor honours degree is available to all students who have completed the equivalence of three years of education at the HDU. The fourth year at Edinburgh Napier University is called "Honours" year and consists of two trimesters (September to December, January to May).
The honours year includes two courses per trimester and elaborating a thesis (called "dissertation") during the whole year. One or even two courses per trimester are electives. Students can choose among a wide range of fields including marketing, finance, economics, supply chain management, strategy, human resources, entrepreneurship, accounting, and law.
The work load is more evenly distributed among the semesters than at the HDU. Some courses (according to my experience especially finance) tend to have significantly higher total work loads than other courses offered. The upside is they yield high educational value and are ideal for everyone considering specialisation in finance.
Betreuung vor Ort:
Personal contact among faculty staff varies heavily from lecturer to lecturer. While some are generally approachable and supportive, others tend to be more reserved. Important advice: It is generally possible to select a lecturer as supervisor for the dissertation rather than being allocated to one.
Many issues can be resolved directly talking to programme directors (currently: Ronny Lannon) and module leaders. Turning to the faculty office for problem solving etc. tends to be more bureaucratic.
Living expenses are higher than in Deggendorf. Please do not hesitate to contact me for detailed info or in case you have questions.
Tipps:
The double degree programme with Edinburgh Napier University is ideal for students with a strong academic focus. The oppportunity to complete an honours degree is very valuable. The BA (Hons) in Business Management additionally allows to pursuit doctoral studies, waiving the necessity for post-graduate Master studies. This can be an advantage for students who aim for an academic career.
