Universität:
Hogeschool Rotterdam

Semester und Studiengang:
6. Semester Bachelor International Management

Aufenthalt:
Sommersemester 2013

Über die Universität:
The Hogeschool Rotterdam is very modern and is located not far from the city centre. I took the IBEX programme. For those who see their future in the Marketing area this program can be very useful. The study period is divided into 2 parts, so you will have exams in the middle of semester. Usually exams take place after 5 class units, which is quite a short time-span in comparison to HDU and therefore it is highly recommendable to better start the preparation for the exams earlier. Nevertheless all the classes are very practically oriented and not so complicated. The IBEX programme is very international, about 20 fellow-students out of 40 came from all over the world.
The university has a huge library, however you will always know which sources you need for the exam preparation.
The Lecturers are very professional and all of them had a great experience in the past, what is very helpful from practical side.

Unfortunately, the Canteen where you can find snacks, drinks, etc. is rather small, they only serve a few dishes, but you can eat in the Canteen of Erasmus University, which is just around the corner.
Everything in the university is paid by chip card, which can be bought in the "Study Store" for 22.50 EUR. The problem is - they are not rechargeable and often sold out, so better buy several cards in advance. To avoid this problem, you can open a Dutch Bank account, then you can use the chip of the card and recharge it with the special "Chip Knip" machine at the university.

The International Office is very helpful and professional. If there are any problems (what happens quite rarely) they are always ready to help in short time.

Betreuung vor Ort:
Both accommodation opportunities offered by the Student Housing at the university are quite far away from the university and in comparison to Deggendorf are more expensive (about 350-500 EUR). Robert Baelde Residence where I stayed is a good, quiet location, 10 min walking to centre, 30 min walking, or 15 min by subway to the Hogeschool. Transportation is very expensive, so there is also an option to buy a second hand cheap bike.

If one wants to get the room in one of the residences - better send an application in advance. The room key is usually given out on the same day when classes start, that caused problems for some students, but you cannot move in earlier.
The residence itself was quite nice, however not clean. If something is broken, it usually takes a long time until it is repaired. The shower fixing in my room was broken from the first day of my stay there and was not repaired during the four months of my time in Rotterdam.
The residence has only one washing machine and one dryer, for using of each one has to pay 1,50 EUR. If the machine is broken there is also a laundry 10 min walking from the residence.

Tipps:
It is definitely better to study in Rotterdam during the summer term to see the most beautiful spring ever.
For public transport I recommend to buy the special OV card, which one can find almost everywhere. It costs 7.50 EUR and traveling with it is cheaper in the end than buying tickets.
There are great places in the city and around it. I recommend to visit garden Keukenhof, the most amazing place I have ever been.
Four months are just "flying there" and if you go there - enjoy each day!
