Über die Universität:
The University of Nicosia is situated in the heart of the island of Cyprus. Due to the hot weather almost throughout the whole year, the people on the island lead a relaxed life. This also applies to the study process. It doesn't mean that you don't have to put any effort, it's just that there will be no pressure on you.
The choice of courses is pretty wide, and there are usually not too many people in one course. All the lecturer materials are available online, and a lot of student books are in the library. People in the University are nice and ready to help. If you have any questions, the ERASMUS office workers will provide all the necessary information. A detail, which I find very nice, is the midterm exams for every subject. This makes student life a little easier :-)

Betreuung vor Ort:
I would like to point out that the time in Cyprus was really great. The University is amazing, as well as the staff, who make you feel like you are equal, they are very friendly to you. However, I had difficulties finding an accommodation. There is a number of student houses, but not all of them are for people who prefer comfort. There is a dormitory right next to the university. It is modern and clean, but a little expensive - around 100 EUR more expensive than the similar ones in Deggendorf. Moreover, you have to rent a room there for two semesters minimum. The option the accommodation office offers to each ERASMUS student is a dorm 5 minutes away from the university. The rooms are either single or double, but the kitchen is one for the floor. You can imagine that it's not the kitchen you would want to cook in. So some ERASMUS students prefer to look for their own apartments. The trick is that very few landlords are willing to sign a contract for one semester only. So my advice is to start looking for a place you would want to live in asap.

Tipps:
The first thing you should keep in mind is that Cyprus is a pretty pricey island. Even though Nicosia is not a tourist spot, you'd probably spend twice as much money in a supermarket as you spend in Deggendorf.

The schedule of classes can be really tiresome, so be ready to spend much time at the Cafeteria in between, or go home and back a lot. The classes last for 3 hours with a 20-30 minute break. Get more coffee and snacks :-)

Be ready to walk a lot or take a taxi in the evening, as the city buses stop running around 7pm.

Bring your swimming suit with you! You will need it a lot. It is easy to travel around the island by Intercity buses or a hired car, so every weekend can be spent at the seaside.

Cyprus is an awesome place with a rich history and amazing culture. If you live in this country for at least one semester, you will fall in love with it. And you will never regret your choice. Enjoy! :-)
