Über die Universität:
The UNiFOR is a really big privat university in Fortaleza, Brazil. The campus area is huge with all kind of facilities, from gym, swimming pool and bank to lake and natur preservation area - All of that available for all students.
The classes are organized in an efficient manner during the week and the professors possess competence and knowledge on the fields of expertise, which make the classes attractive to attend. They are also really open and easy to approach, kind and aways available, not imposing any kind of superiority or hierarchical behavior. A great point is that by the master programme, there are no exams, only scientific research production in the form of papers.
The UNIFOR possess a great variety of bachelor programmes, but since it is a university, the classes are more inclined to the scientific-theoretical side.
The communication with the personal and administration was really easy. The university has an international office which is always ready to help international students.
Betreuung vor Ort:
The Brazilians are always very friendly, what makes the process of establishing a relationship really easy! However finding a place to live is an unexpected hard task, since the city has no student dormitory, and renting a house on the wrong neighborhood can happen to be a pretty dangerous idea. On that point, the list with possible accommodation provided by the university was not very helpful. Another point that could be improved is the orientation week, there were no group integration events or trips sponsored by the university.
Tipps:
As tips for the next students I would say: travel to the city two weeks earlier then your planned date, so you can look for a good apartment. Make sure that the neighborhood is a safe one, and that you have a good strategic location (bus stop, supermarket, places to go out all in your near area).
Have patience, accept that order and punctuality are not very important, enjoy the good weather and have fun!!
