Über die Universität:
Hallym is a rather small private university, that is just 50km next to Seoul in a city called Chuncheon. The university provides a lot of different courses in Korean and English. But the problem with some of the English courses is that they are sometimes not purely in English but in some parts in Korean. But that depends on the professor. Sometimes they talk 10% in Korean and 90% in English, but in other time it is 60% Korean and 40% English. Because of that you should look at as many courses as possible in the first two weeks to figure out which courses do have most in Korean.
The first two weeks are the period where you can add and drop courses. For me personally it was a little bit annoying but nothing that couldn’t be handled.
The university provides you with a lot scheduled activities that you can take part in for example a trip to Nami Island.

Betreuung vor Ort:
Everybody who goes to Hallym University gets a "buddy" who helps you throughout the semester and answers all your questions. He also picks you up from the airport so you don´t need to worry about getting to the university from the airport. Your buddy provides help and assistance with all the major events.
Also the university is supportive and helps all students to get for example a phone contract. Furthermore you can always go to the International Office if you need some help.
I lived in HID, that’s the dormitory where you share your room with two Korean room-mates. You will notice that the HID is old, but you can get a job there where you tutor around 5 Koreans 2 hours per week. If you do the tutor job you don´t have to pay for the dorm. It’s a great way to improve your English skills that I can recommend for everyone.

Tipps:
Definitely go to HID and try to get into the Tutor programme.
Do go to Korea for a summer semester because the weather is then getting better throughout the semester and not worse like in the winter semester. And don´t just hang around the other German exchange students but make friends with the other foreigners or Koreans.
I can only say that Korea is a great experience, that you will not regret. For me it was a great time and wonderful semester abroad, that I will never forget.
