Universität:

Semester und Studiengang:
3. Semester Bachelor International Tourism Management / Health & Medical Tourism

Aufenthalt:
wintersemester 2016

Über die Universität:
The university is awesome! It is a very modern building and you might get lost in the first few days, but you will get used to that. Students from the European Campus will have a totally different university experience :D
If you need any help, you will find an info point at the entrance. The courses they offer are good. You can choose from Tourism and Business courses. Almost all professors speak good English and are ready to help you if you have any difficulties. You will see that the relationship to the professors is different than back in Germany (you call them by their first name, that makes it so relaxed).
You will have some written assignments which will affect your final grade and an exam which can be at the end or even in the middle of the semester. If the professor decides not to have an exam, be prepared to hand in more that one written assignment.
You can learn a lot at Savonia University. They cooperate with finish companies and you might have the opportunity to work with them if you have chosen the right course. Anyway, you will enjoy the courses and all the challenges which will face you.

Betreuung vor Ort:
Every student gets a tutor. They normally pick you up from the airport and bring you your apartment. If you ask them, they will go with you to IKEA or any other shop. So if you need any kind of help, just contact them!
For the accommodation you have to apply at KUOPAS online. The rooms are okay for four months, but do not expect too much. Watch out for what kind of room you apply for. You can choose between furnished and not furnished rooms. Every room has its own wlan router, so no worries about good internet access.
If you need something, check out the KISA Student Marketplace. Fellow students offer there everything they do not need.

Tipps:
Take some warm clothes with you. The coldest I experienced in Kuopio was -18°C. It is not that much for December, but if you are not used to cold, you could freeze a bit.
Many students bought a bike for their stay in Kuopio. I actually recommend you to buy a bus card (for one month 38€, a single ticket for one ride costs 3,20€) and here you go. During the wintertime you will be glad for having a bus card and not being "forced" to use a bike and freeze your nose off.
Travel as much as you can! Finland is beautiful, so go to Lapland (Rovaniemi is worth visiting. They have a Santa Claus Village and Levi is not that far away!). You can also book trips with ESN KISA. They might be a bit expensive, but worth it! They offer trips to St. Petersburg, Stockholm and Lapland. Tallinn and Riga are also very close, so explore the world.
The university has a gym which students from Savonia and UEF can use. The fee of about 35€ includes different group activities and the general gym. So if you don´t want to stay at home during the dark hours, definitely get the sticker!

Enjoy your stay in Finland. It is a great experience and you will meet a lot of great people. A lot of student parties are expecting you and some hangover nights, especially on Thursdays where beer is just 2€ in Alepubi! :)
Oh and buy yourself an overall with the colour of your study field! Collect the patches and go party with your new outfit. All the Finish students do that and it will be definetely a great memory for you. Have fun and feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
