Universität:
Universidad Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB)

Semester und Studiengang:
3. Semester Bachelor International Tourism Management / Health & Medical Tourism

Aufenthalt:
wintersemester 2016

Über die Universität:
The university is not directly in Barcelona, it takes you approximately 40 minutes to get there by train. The campus is really big, and there is a seperate campus for the tourism studies. In the first week the UAB offers a welcome week, where you can get to know all the other erasmus students.
The teaching staff is very cooperative. I had five subjects and it was possible to do four of them in English. Sometimes it was difficult to follow in a class in Spanish, because they switched into Catalan.
The course work includes regularly various presentations and written reports, other activities and homework. And you also have more than one exam in most of the subjects. I really enjoyed having the Amadeus Reservation class, because we learned how to work with this programme, which is very helpful for future jobs in the tourism industry. I also had the chance to take part in a basic Catalan course for free.

Betreuung vor Ort:
For the semester abroad you have to organize many things, but don't be afraid, you will receive a list with all the things that have to be done. First of all and most important is that you work on your learning agreement. And of similar importance is to find your accommodation in Barcelona. I found my room with the help of rentroombarcelona. I was lucky to find a small room in the centre of Barcelona in a house with many other people from different countries.

Tipps:
If you are planning to go to the UAB I would recommend to arrive early enough to be able to get acquainted with the big campus. There are student accommodations at the campus, but I preferred staying in the city centre. Anyway, you can easily use the metro, ferrocarril and the bus as well with a special student ticket for 90 days to commute to the campus. The infrastructure is very good and there is a train (Ferrocarril) going to the university every 5 to 10 minutes.
Enjoy the city and the different cultures that you will experience during your semester abroad in Barcelona, but remember if you want to go to this university, you also have to work rather hard.
