wintersemester 2016

Über die Universität:
The Udayana University is placed in Jimbaran/Denpasar, the capital of Bali. It has many faculties and about 20.000 students. I made my exchange semester with the IBSN programme (International Business Studies Network) which co-orporates with the faculty of economics of the Udayana University. Each programme (e.g. goBali, Asia Exchange, IBSN, etc.) has it's own building, and the courses takes place from Monday to Thursday. The staff was very friendly and helpful everytime we had issues or questions about assignments or other stuff we had to do for the uni. The courses are held 100% in English and the professors are basically from Southeast Asia, but we also had guest lectures were we had professors from all over the world (England, Australia, the US, France). You can choose between six different courses which are mainly economic and business based. I found most of them very interesting.
Semester start of the IBSN programme is April or September and you can gain up to 30 ECTS credit points.

Betreuung vor Ort:
The staff is very supportive. Especially the ladies from the secretary are friendly and helped us every time we had a problem or questions about any documents which were needed. Our contact person was Prof. Dr. Stephan Passon from the University of Dortmund who initiated the IBSN programme.

It is not a big deal to find an appropriate accommodation. The IBSN supportive team gave me access to a facebook group were all the exchange students of my semester in Bali kept contact and there I could find my roommates even months before the semester started. Some students lived at first in a hotel for a few days or weeks (since these hostels are really cheap) and then moved into an appartment or most of them into a villa like me. This also depends on how much you want to spend for the accommodation.

Tipps:
There are a lot of things to do on Bali and you should really use the leisure time to explore the island. You can go surfing, hiking, playing soccer, partying, going in a lot of delicious restaurants and of course just enjoy the beach and the sun. You can drive with the scooter to a lot of special places and also get to know the local life better. The Indonesian people are very friendly and enjoy your company. We also visited some locals at home were we did a barbecue, sang some songs together and enjoyed the evening.
