Land:
Belgien

Universität:
Artevelde Hogeschool Ghent

Semester und Studiengang:
5. Semester Bachelor International Management

Aufenthalt:
wintersemester 2016

Über die Universität:
Belgium wasn't my first choice at the beginning but at the end and during my studies I wasn't disappointed at all. The Artevelde is really modern and very technical. Everything is organised and easy to access. I was selected for business management studies. The work load consists mostly of group work or written papers. However, some of the classes had final tests at the end of the semester. Generally I did not find the courses too difficult and compared with THD they were definitely easier and on a lower level.
The Artevelde offers many activities for students, special promotions and clubs that you can attend. Most of the lecturers are really skilled and helped me broaden my knowledge in different subjects.
The school canteen is also really good and offers affordable food of good quality. But in general, the prices in Belgium are much higher than in Germany.

Betreuung vor Ort:
The staff at the Artevelde is always really helpful. The International Office is very supportive whenever you have a question or any concerns, it is quite easy to contact them. However, it was always better to set an appointment. Professors would normally reply to all the mails, but just very briefly and weren't too willing to help when there were uncertainties about exams, which was quite disappointing for me.
I found my accommodation all by myself, since the student housing is too expensive. I lived in a shared flat and it was really comfortable and close to the Hogeschool. Most of the school dorms are situated very closely to the school.

Tipps:
Definitely look for your accommodation way in advance and be sure that it is situated close to the centre or to the Artevelde.
Be prepared for an overwhelming amount of group work.
Gent is really beautiful and there is so much to explore around.
Belgium has two airports that fly all over Europe for really cheap prices, so if you would like to explore more of Europe during your stay abroad, Belgium is a great choice.
