Über die Universität:
The Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi (DEU) in Izmir was founded in 1982 and is organized in 15 faculties. DEU is the first university which applied the problem-based learning method in Turkey. The city of İzmir is composed of several metropolitan districts. DEU is not located in the well-known and most beautiful places which are often located near the centre of Izmir but most of the students live and stay the most time at the area near the campuses which is also alive. You can find everything you need there. Furthermore the different campuses are located quite near, so ist very simple to organise a group with whom you can drive together towards the centre, different regions or to the promenades beside the sea.
I studied in the business faculty. The courses which I chose were hold in English as indicated in the course catalogue. I had to change some during my mobility but at the end I could take seven courses. These courses accorded with those at the THD as International Business Management, Marketing, Managerial Accounting, Cross Culture, Event Management etc. The DEU offers indeed many courses which accord with ours in Deggendorf. Although I took seven courses and passed all of them, I had some spare time for everything which I wanted to do in Izmir and Turkey. I accomplished to get 32 ECTS points at the end.

Betreuung vor Ort:
If you are interested in doing your semester abroad at the Dokuz Eylul University you should definitely go there. The best reason to choose DEU is the ESN organisation which is very active at this University and enables you to do so many excursions, activities and they help you with almost every problem.
And İzmir is a beautiful place to be. It is a metropolitan city in the western extremity of Anatolia and the third most populous city in Turkey, after Istanbul and Ankara (İzmir Province has a total population of 4 mio.). İzmir's metropolitan area extends along the outlying waters of the Gulf of İzmir and inland to the north across the Gediz River delta. I travelled much and had the time to enquire Izmir and interesting places and sites near Izmir.

Tipps:
İzmir has a Mediterranean climate, which is characterized by long, hot and dry summers; and mild to cool, rainy winters.
To sum up, I have had a good time and very successful semester in Izmir and enjoyed so many events and activities. I can highly recommend to do an Erasmus semester.
