Universität:
Institute of Hospitality Management in Prague

Semester und Studiengang:
3. Semester Bachelor International Tourism Management / Health & Medical Tourism

Aufenthalt:
wintersemester 2016

Über die Universität:
The Institute of Hospitality Management Prague is a relatively small (approx. 1600 students) and a private University. It is about half an hour's drive (with public transportation) from the city centre. The Institute offers the possibility of studying Hospitality Management (HM) in English on bachelor's and master's level to young people from all over the world. Here is a short list of some of the courses on offer: Macroeconomics, Tourism Basic for Hospitality Management, International Trade, Accounting, Marketing, Ethics and Etiquette, Health and Nutrition and Optional Subjects. HM is focused on the practical and theoretical knowledge needed to manage small and medium-sized enterprises, especially hotels, restaurants, guest houses etc.
The courses in English are very small because most of the Czech students decide for the courses in Czech and not for those in English. Most courses are devided into lectures and seminars. The seminars have to be attended regularly to get permission to the exams, you are allowed to miss just three times in the semester. In most subject we had to write a paper to be allowed to sit the exam. The teachers' English is good and the courses are well structured.

Betreuung vor Ort:
I have to admit that some of the staff was not very helpful. The responsible person for the Erasmus students was only there twice a week. In the first week some coures were cancelled and we did not get any info about the changes, and at that time we did not have access to the info system for students. On our first day we were shown around the university, and in the first week we did a boat trip with the Erasmus students, but that was everything we did with the other Erasmus students.

Tipps:
If you want to get a public transport ticket, you need to get a paper from the school that confirms your student status. But not every Metro station sells tickets for over 3 days. So go to Hlavni nadrazi which is the main train station. For that you also need a passport-size picture.

Be aware that most people don´t understand English, so be prepared to talk with your hands. .
