Über die Universität:
The TecMilenio University Campus Cancún is rather small and connected with the highschool. The university buildings are very modern and well equipped. It has a cafeteria and a gym at no charge, which offers diverse activities.
There are courses of Tourism, Hotel Management, International Trade, Marketing and a few more. As it is a private university, the classes are small (8-12 students) and there is a familiar atmosphere with all the teachers. For me the small courses and everyday homework were an advantage because I was learning by doing. So just before the exam I didn’t have all the stress with learning it all by heart. The homework, the multipile-choice exams every six weeks and the final exam count for the final grade. If you miss more than four times the same course you aren’t allowed to take part in the final exam, but if you have a good relationship with the teacher they may make an exemption. The ability of Spanish is quite important because most courses are offered in Spanish only.

Betreuung vor Ort:
At the time I was in Cancun, Susana took care of the international students. She is very nice and helpful. No matter what problem we had, we could always talk to her and she would help to find a solution. She also organized a day trip for us to get to know fellow students and to see some amazing places of interest in the area.
I lived in a room rented to me by a private person, it was neither well furnished nor was the kitchen well equipped, sometimes there was no water, sometimes no internet connection and once a while breaking floor tiles. It didn’t matter really, I wasn’t spending that much time at home, almost always eating out, with showering possibilities in the gym at the university and internet connection on the campus. The Mexicans just told us “tranquilo” (keep calm) that happens quite frequently there - I think that tells a lot about their living style. The landlord helped always as soon as possible. I payed 150€ for the room.
At the end of the semester all the international students, the responsible persons and the director had a closing breakfast together.

Tipps:
- Swim with the whaleshark, it’s a unique and amazing experience
- Go to Holbox if you want to escape the party attitude and experience untouched nature
- Enjoy reggaeton ;)
- Don’t expect Cancun to be really Mexican, because it’s a holiday destination for the North Americans
- Be prepared for quick weather changes
- If you think something is too expensive: bargain
- Be open-minded
- Don’t have your birthday there – your nose may break
- Don’t think you can wear “the right” things: outside it’s really hot, inside buildings almost freezing
- Take some extra money for adventures
- Take the chance to explore Mexiko – it’s absolutely stunning!
